@Alexander Krivitsky
Wrapping up a pretty good year in music.
Looking back, we found some great stuff - Griff - “Black Hole”(KN June 22),
Shang Hi Los - “Sway Little Player” (KN May18), Prince - “Hot Summer”(KN July 23)
We at Know Noise also realized some of the most anticipated music from artists we love were disappointing or ho-hum. Know Noise originally wanted to primarily focus on new tunes, but what's most important is that we bring you only great music.
So... that means we'll bring you the best tunes that aren't necessarily new, but ones that we believe slipped under your radar. So you’ll see more unknown older cuts as we ride through all the Noise out there.
A perfect example is a cut from Bowie that just got re-released on the compilation called David Bowie's Brilliant Adventure (1992-2001). It's got 110 songs and almost 10 hours of listening. A lot of this passed me by at the time (he is so prolific) , but this song is so alluring. It's very techno, but also has this horn section, guitar riff & superb backing vocals that keeps it driving and driving.
Like Ziggy recommended - To be played at maximum volume.
David Bowie - “Real Cool World”
Jazz/blues/rock guitarist Robben Ford has this new bluesy shuffle which sounds great, but what grabs me most is the saxophone here. Check out the solo that begins at 3:45 in. It's so quirky, but cool.
”White Rock Beer... 8 cents”
Before we go any further - I need to add some color to this newsletter. All my links are basically black & white!
Here’s how they do Christmas in West Palm Beach FL:
Know Noise is so addicted to melodies... this one is from 1967. We came across a re-master of this classic pop song where you can so clearly hear everything - the strings, the subtle harmonies
Here's Lulu - “To Sir With Love”
Bridgend, South Wales band Those Damn Crows have been rocking around since 2014. They take sweet chord structures and pluck their razor guitars - They remind a bit of Collective Soul. I love how they mix their tambourines on the right channel… almost like modern day Power Pop.
Here’s ”Be You”
We bring you this next cover song, mainly to just hear this one vocal riff.
British hard rock band Inglorious basically do a note for note rendition of Heart's "Barracuda", and it's adequate... But what's special is three quarters of the way into
the tune - after the guitar solo, former Trans-Siberian Orchestra member Nathan James sings "you better make up something quick - You're gonna burn burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick"…
It’s kinda spine-tingling.
See if you agree:
ICYMI x 2
One of the prettiest songs ever... by one of the greatest voices ever
Dobie Gray’s "We Had it All"
And since it's New Years... making his first appearance on Know Noise - ELVIS.
I usually don't like when artists/bands perform their hits with orchestras.
Two things typically happen:
1. The songs slow down and are sluggish
2. They never get the mix right.
This one is different - the strings add such bounce to the song and they are very crisp. They add so much flavor.
Elvis Presley & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - “Burning Love“
Good tidings of comfort & joy everybody!
Because we’re just building the soundtrack to our lives together...
